Something I read this morning.......
"The continual grubbing on the inside to see whether we are what we ought to be generates a self-centered, morbid type of Christianity, not the robust, simple life of the child of God." (Prayer-A Holy Occupation, Oswald Chambers)
Is Christianity too focused on the "it's all for me" and not enough on "it's all for HIM"?

Sounds like the Grace vs Works debate to me.
I received a book from The Jehovah's Witness called "What Does God Require of us?" Could it be that the preoccupation with making sure we are doing it right be a form of bondage? Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that we should not do things to please him. If we grasp the depth of His love and power vs our complete depravity, this should make us very very grateful people. We would want to do His will out of love, not by score keeping. The more I reflect on myself, the more I realize that I am completely unworthy. This is morbid indeed as I focus on my depravity and ineptness. The more I think about His greatness and His love for me, the more I conform to Christ likeness. This is not something that I can claim as a victory, for if it was completely up to me, I would surely fail. God said that some day He would simply be our God, and we would be His people. We could let go the guilt and the constant effort to please Him and we could simply live in His grace and His glory, naturally.
Do you govern your actions in order to go to heaven or do you simply act out of the love and respect that you have for Him. This is quite a struggle indeed.
